Sturgis Open, Jan 8, 2012

Well, the season begins in earnest this week with the first Southwest Region tournament of the year in Sturgis.  Last week’s tournament at Brandywine was a tremendous success.  Wrestling started at 9.35 and ran smoothly all day.  I’m sure this week will be just as good, if not better.

Update: Those who attended the morning session may be wondering why we started a little late.  Rest assured that it wasn’t a technical issue, it was a human issue having to do with weigh-ins.  I believe we will have that ironed out in the future so hopefully we can start at 9.30 am sharp at Plainwell.

The final 2011 tournament is on Saturday the 31st.  It is also the last Novice tournament of the season.

MYWAY Technology Update

After many weeks of trying, those in charge at MYWAY have abandoned their efforts to implement the Automat Live program which has plagued various tournaments this year.  The general consensus was that the failures were causing more harm than good to the wrestling cause.  I agree wholeheartedly.

Instead of using Automat Live, regions have the choice the regular Automat application, which has been used for the last several years, or TrackWrestling.  The Southwest Region has chosen to use the Automat application.  While it isn’t as flashy as TrackWrestling and doesn’t give us online updates, it’s very dependable and  allows us to start our tournaments on time each week.

Hopefully everyone who went to Mendon last week had a good time.  This week we have Mattawan.  They are hosting their first Southwest Region tournament ever, but I’m sure they will do fine.

Satellite weigh-ins are at Sturgis HS and Niles HS, Saturday Dec. 17, 6-7 pm
